The hotel and the adjacent recreation ground served as a local meeting place for mill workers, travellers, road boards, progress associations, historical societies and political rallies.

The single storey Sawyers Valley Tavern is one of a few Art Deco style buildings in the shire other than some minor elements on several residence. The overall character of the building retains much of its original form and is simply detailed. The principle focus of Art Deco decoration is the projection through the tiled roof at the main entry of a tall, stepped, rounded and streamline rendered parapet element.
The Sawyers Valley Tavern has high social significance for the local community. The building’s Art Deco character is unique in the Shire of Mundaring. Sitting opposite the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail, the site also has historic significance as the location of Lot Leather’s former store and hotel.
In 2016 the Sawyers Valley Tavern was listed on Western Australia’s Heritage Register for the contribution made by the place to Western Australia’s cultural heritage.
Came past here looking for a Sunday pub lunch and we were seriously pleasantly surprised. The service was great, the food portions were very generous and very tasty and there was so much room for the kids to run around and play – as well as a bouncy castle and sand pit. We will come back. Great job guys.
Kid-friendliness: It’s great for kids, and speaking to staff they are making plans to make it even more family friendly.
Skimpy girl on Wednesday & Friday. Nah that’s not the only reason I like the place, it’s a relaxed old fashioned country pub, the beer’s cold and thev locals make it a congenial place to have a pint or two or three.
The automated 1 star is being very generous. My experience here was beyond horrendous. Not only was the STEVE rude to myself and my 5 companions regarding rules & regulations at the premises, which were inconsistent from our last visit. He was also derogatory to his employees.
This was our main concern. I would not visit again.
We had an amazing pub lunch at the Sawyers Valley Tavern today. I ordered a t-bone reef and beef and my partner ordered the seafood platter. Both meals were generous in proportion and cooked to perfection.
We will definitely be back to try their new menu which will be available in a couple of weeks.
We also couldn’t fault the service.
Really impressed
The advertised special roast was wrong. So we ordered another. Then we were told that wasn’t available. Beer garden was ok, at least the option is there! Beer on tap was ok.
